There are about five different crankshafts used in those gas and diesel engines that are all dimensionally the same. To start with the gas and diesel crankshafts were not interchangeable. The difference had to due with the hardening process. "Tuft-Rited" shafts cannot be reground. "Elotherm" hardened shafts can be reground but not straightened. Later service crankshafts can be used in either gas or diesel engines.
Unfortunately the information on the different crankshafts is contained in a service bulletin and I do not have access to them. Hopefully either someone else here can come up with the crankshaft numbers or you can get the information from a dealer who has the old service bulletins.
