Reading your description of the problem, I assume you mean the hydraulic system builds pressure. First test is with engine not running. Does lever stay in detent position in both directions. If not, you need to correct that first, linkage to valve or problem in valve. If it does latch ok, start engine. If it kicks lever back to neutral you then know fluid is restricted some where between valve and cylinder. As you said you changed couplers, (which is normally the problem) I would look to see if you have a check valve block in the system and suspect that. When problems like this develop it is often best to just eliminate all couplers and hook hose directly together to determine where the problem lies. Now if the levers just stay in detent when you start engine you have a lack of flow and pressure from pump, relief valve or blown O-rings on pump mount.
