I agree that academics are all too often subjugated by sports. How many of your local grads make a living with sports, vs academics? We have an excellent school system here- really, one of the top in the US....check out Eden Valley-Watkins....been recognized nationally, now, recently, was it Delano, MN? Small town schools with excellent academics. Two of our six kids moved back here so their kids would be part of the system.
Yet- this summer, the elem principal said the summer "breakfast program (WTH?) (parents....FEED your kids!) for our kids cost local taxpayers NOTHING cuz it came from Federal dollars, not State!
In our system all three dau were honor students, one a Valedictorian. Her younger sis...I thought would be our second Val....she was in a very bright class.....and it didn"t bother her to be less than top, but she graduated from Stanford U in CA, enlisted in the Army, did a tour in Afghan, and still at JFK Special Warfare Center, Ft. Bragg, NC.
She got back in May, and is prepped/planning for her second tour for us and US. Wanted to go OCS, but just turned 30 on Oct 6.......gotta be 28 or under to go to Officer School.
