Wow! You guys made my day. I thought I was alone in thinking that todays over emphasis on sports was detrimental to our education system. Glad to know that a lot of others wonder how we got so far out of wack.
I was active in sports, varsity lettered 3 sports (easy to do in a small rural school) but we were never allowed to think that basketball was more important than a good education. Most of the guys I played sports with graduated from college (but certainly not on sports scholarships).
Our local newspaper has 2 pages of HS sports and about 2 paragraphs of academic excellance reporting.
