: : Ok, all the recycling tanks have disappeared from this area of Michigan ... so does anyone know what to do with used motor oil? : : Grandpa used to just throw it out back.... what is everyone doing with it these days? : Mark: : I was raised in Michigan, down around St. Johns...I remember the winters. Surely, someone must use a waste oil furnace in their shop. I take all mine to the local car repair place. They're glad to have it, it doesn't cost anything to get rid of it, and it's about as environmentally friendly as you're likely to get without spending a fortune. : Paul. Hi Michiganders, I live in Dowagiac, Mi. At the shop I work in they charge us .20 cents a gallon to take away waste oil, the guy who takes it says they burn it in the steel mills in Gary Ind. . We let people dump used oil for free, as long as they only have 5-10 gallons or less. Check your local garages.
