My mail just came at the office, I looked at 2 letters from across my small town- both were mailed Nov. 4, are stamped "Tacoma Nov. 5, and I got them today, the 6th.
Once upon a time, everything was sorted locally, and a letter to someone in the same town mailed in the morning would be in the recipients PO box by afternoon. Then they went to central sorting in Olympia (30 miles away), then moved it to Tacoma (60 miles). So 2 days now, minimum. Reason? Same reason combines and tractors keep getting bigger- going to higher capacity, more sophisticated machines so they can handle a bigger area of mail. Can't blame 'em for trying to get more efficient, because their hemorrhaging money, but the slower it gets, the more alternatives people will try, and the less volume they will have. Kind of a vicious circle.
