: what would be a good tractor for me? I got about 2 acres of yard to mow,I have a long driveway that would be nice if I cold plow snow with,I have a lot ofd landscaping to do(I have 2 acres of timber that I plan on killin all the weeds & seeding it down.would require a lot of leveling.I am looking to spend around 5-6000 for the tractor, mower & loader.

Ford: late 1000 or 2000, 1510, 1710, 1910
JD: 820, 830, 1020 (all 3-cyl diesels from the 1965-1975 period)

Any of these would have diesel engines, power steering, live PTO (check for it being on a particular unit, however). You need this kind of machine to handle a loader well. The older stuff if fine for the other jobs, but the lack of large capacity hydraulics will cause troubles with loader work. Make sure you get power steering, too. Running a loader-equipped tracto without power steering is an experience! (one you DON'T want to have).

There are others in MF, Kubota, Yanmar, etc. that I don't know the model numbers off hand. You'll need something in the 30 HP range.

Today's Featured Article - When Push Comes to Shove - by Dave Patterson. When I was a “kid” (still am to a deree) about two I guess, my parents couldn’t find me one day. They were horrified (we lived by the railroad), my mother thought the worst: "He’s been run over by a train, he’s gone forever!" Where did they find me? Perched up on the seat of the tractor. I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”. I’m par ... [Read Article]
