It's not advisable with this truck, but this is the time of year to do it because temps are down a little bit. You must have a good sized transmission cooler (AT LEAST 150sq. in. @ .75 thick) and a temperature gauge is very advisable. After having one for a while, I think it should be standard with a factory tow package. Never let temperature get above 210F. Lock-up doesn't matter if you stay below this temperature. Lock-up helps A LOT to keep the trans temperature down
Keep it out of OD. There is ABSOLUTELY no benefit to using it. Mileage, at best, will be the same as using D(3). I've seen where it was lower as well.
What kind of cargo trailer. V front? Some cargo trailers can tow very hard despite not being that heavy.
If this is a buddy's truck, you're better off not using it, unless it already has the cooler and gauge on it, or you're willing to add them. Without it, you'll more than likely be putting a new transmission in.
