Yep, the original name for Sears sporting goods was indeed, J.C. Higgins. When you research the name there are a few comments that don't exactly coincide, but J.C.Higgins worked for Sears and when Sears decided to give heir line of sporting goods a name, somehow his name came up. Since he had no middle name, Sears added the "C" for a middle initial. This name was used from 1908 until 1964, or according to one source, 1961. Ted Williams name was on the majority of Sears sporting goods, but there were others. I have a limited edition tent with Sir Edmund Hillarys' name on it. Unfortunately, the poles became separated from the tent at some point in time, and the tent itself is all that I have.
