A few decades and years back, I remember when they used to show the first snow of Texas on our news in Indiana, and I used to say "They sure can't drive down there". Then I joined the Army and one of my duties was Ft. Hood, TX. Rain far and few between, and when it did rain, weeks and months build up of oil and dust soot would get washed off the roads, making it like an ice skating rink in July. Kind of hard to crown roads for run off when everything is flatter than flat and its tens, tens, and tens of miles between towns to even bother with it. Never got much snow or ice either, so didn't and may still not have the equipment to deal with it because simple economics say that its not cost effective to purchase as much snow removal equipment as Winnipeg, Manitoba, and that made driving on snowy icy days in Texas a bear. I'm from Indiana where we get rain, snow, and ice and have learned to navigate it. Down in Texas where they don't get it so much, when they do, its not the same as it is up here, and thinking that because I'm from up here and know how and what to do up here, doesn't work the same down there. I know. I was there. Much easier said than done. It aint the same or even close to it. Under those conditions, what I wouldn't give to watch a video comedy of some Upper Peninsula type say, "Give me the wheel, I'm a better driver than Mario Andretti ever dreamed of being". Been there, done that, learned my lesson long, long ago.
