It hurts. I watched a friend spend a few months taking care of his dying father. He was a only child, so no other help. It consumed every free minute he had. Soon he started getting sick from nervousness and no sleep. When he finally contacted the nursing home they told him not to bring much stuff cuz his father would be dead by the end of the week. He got pissed but they were right. It took about 6 months but he admitted to me one day that he thanked God that it was over when his dad passed. The constant grind of wondering if he was doing something right or wrong was tearing him apart physically. Those last few months were not the memories he wanted of his father.
