When I was a kid, we lived in NW Georgia. Rarely had snow so we used either a sheet of cardboard or an old car hood to slide down the steep, pine needle covered hills. Unopened pine cones and green, unripe gumballs from sweetgum trees substituted for snowballs. Also, instead of sleds, we had what was known as a "flexie" (sp?) which was basically a steerable sled with narrow, wagon-like ball bearing wheels instead of runners. Have scars from both forms of the wholesome entertainment 50 plus years later.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
