JD, The real problem is that medical costs are out of control in America and have been for 25 years thru multiple red and blue administrations.
It is a very complex problem and nobody has tried to fix the root cause.
You are personally up against the dilemma right now. If a tractor dealer wanted to do $5000 worth of systems tests on my old MF65. I would tell him he was crazy, makes no sense, tractor is only worth $3000.
But when the doctor wanted to do $25,000 worth of tests on my 86 year old mother with stage 4 lung cancer...how could we the family, say no?
It is a terrible dilemma for the family. She died, shortly thereafter despite the tests, (as we all knew she would) the tests proved nothing, but the testers got paid, money for house payments, vacations, kids tuition...same things the tractor dealer would spend it on.
6 hospitals in Louisville, chief adminostrater of each made over $1mil. last year, One made $4mil. I don't think they are doing this as a personal commitment to public service. President of University of Kentucky made $600,000.
Somehow, we have to learn to say no sometimes. But I don't know how to do it.
