I have seen the ether trick done once or twice, but I will NEVER try it myself....That is along the same lines as welding on a rim with the tire still mounted, even with the tire deflated and beads unseated, it is a BOMB waiting to go off. A guy I know did that, the tire exploded and he was injured. It was only by the grace of God that he survived.
I do have one of those air blasters that will blast a bunch of air into the tire at once to seat stubborn beads.
