I built a trailer with mobile home axles in 1982. I think they were 6000 lb. axles. I kept having bearing failures and the grease was contaminated. I thought it was seal failures. I finally figured out the spindles were hollow and contaminates would follow through. I took a piece of wooden dowel stick and drove it in tight in each spindle and back filled with silicone. End of trouble. This design I believe would be for a 1 time haul. Sold trailer to a neighbor 10 years ago. He still uses it. When I was looking for axles to build this trailer I asked the local trailer park owner if he had any. He told me the axles had to stay under the the mobile home so trailer was considered mobile. Remove the axles and it was a permanent structure and would be taxed a lot higher.
