I don't know that it was a fond tree, but it sure was memorable. Decades ago, my brother started out one Saturday Christmas Eve to go get one of our sisters a tree. Christmas is not just a big deal to her, but a really, really, really big deal to her. Perhaps the most anticipated day of excitement in her year, and perhaps it should be. So my brother and I started out to go fetch her a tree. Somewhere along our journey, we ran into some buddies and all of us decided to stop off at a tavern and have ONE beer of good cheer together, and then on our ways. I remember that it was daylight, and had to be early because we were on our way to fetch Sis her tree. We were still at the tavern when they made last call. There were no Christmas tree places open at closing time decades ago. Today maybe, but not decades ago. We went to see Sis in the wee hours of the morning, trashed and Christmas treeless on her most special day of the year. She was up and in tears at what we did to her. That couldn't be allowed to happen. We couldn't do that to her, so out we went with a saw and an axe to fetch her a tree, and a tree we got her. A prickly cedar about 20' tall for her 8' ceiling, but we got it. It was in the middle of some snowy field in need of not just any home, but our sister's home, all 20 or so feet of it. We cut it down to about 6' and dragged the other 14 or so feet behind the house, whittled away at the trunk and got it to fit her stand about the time the sun was coming up on Christmas Day. We may have been trashed, but even we knew that it was an ugly tree that no one dared touch if they knew was good for them. Well, Sis got up and did her best to turn that tree into something special and to behold. It didn't work exactly as she planned, but she did her best and really spruced it up. She really did a good job after we nearly broke her heart. She overlooked what we did, and she got her Christmas and Christmas tree in time for her guests to observe. My brother and I never did that to her again, and for as long as either of us are alive, our sister will never ever go without a Christmas tree.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
