most chains will go on without jacking up the truck, provided the truck can move at all either foward or backward, weed used to be good chains i have a set that are at least 15 years old and still good, but rarely used, due to the truck having snow tires all the way around and locking differential, the biggest help for a 4x4 is tire selection, while you dont have to have pure snow tires, as they howl on the hiway the rest of the time, you do need a chunky open tread that will self clean your tire shop can help with selection, your truck needs to be able to dig down and get a hold of something in the snow to go, but dont forget that it wont stop or corner any better than a 2wd, use caution, when its dry, [or in the garadge ] put the chains on the truck and size them as nessessary, so when you need them you know they will fit, just because the box they came in has your tire size on it doesnt mean the chains wont need a little tweeking to fit propperly one thing i used to do when i had wreckers is remove the crosslink nearest the hooks, that way they will go on without moving the truck at all, for quick install, lots of the time we would have to drive 20 miles or more, then chain up to get to the disabled vehicle in winter, being able to throw them on with the truck in place made faster work of it
