Believe it or not, Bob., I built this house in 1985/6 and still have some work to do. I got some help with the difficult bits like the roof and wiring but I did the building myself....stone and all!. We like the old Victorian style and design but there was nothing for sale close enough to our farm anything like what we wanted...So I built on a green field site. The house is built with concrete block and an insulated cavity, with the stone built against the outside skin. We have an old Victorian range in the living room,
It burns wood and coal and we have an oil fired range in the kitchen for cooking with an electric backup cooker for the warm summer months. The rest of the house is heated with hot water radiators heated with an oil fired boiler......We only have had to turn this heater on 3 times this winter!
