MarkB_MI,
I see your point. I lost almost 50% when the market crashed in 08. I sold off one stock at a loss, about $45K. Took the other $45K and reinvested. Not sure if that $45K investment returned to pre 2008 value of $90K.

Some may ask, why take a $45K loss? Answer, it was just a $45K paper loss and for the next 15 years my CPA can write off $3K a year on my income taxes.

I'm no AR-15 expert, don't have one don't want one. I was told that if you can't legally sell it or give it to someone. There are 2 case locally where the US attorney is going after felons who got guns and going after the people who gave them the guns.

Gold bad idea.
Guns bad idea if you can't sell them.
.22 amo may be a very good idea. Pre 2008 I bought a box of 550 .22 long hollow pts. Went to 3 places yesterday asked for .22 and they just laughed.

So where can I buy .22 at a reasonable price? I think I gave about $30 for 550 rounds.

Investing money is a crap shoot. 45 years ago I started investing in single family rentals. I invested in IRA's to legally sheild money from IRS. I retired 10 years ago. Drawing only a pension. When I start drawing my SS and investment money from market, uncle sam is going to get paid, ouch.

Really, I don't know where to invest money. I've tried mutual funds, money markets. Recently, I found a one time pay life insurance policy. If you are healthy, $25K will give your kids $70K tax free money when you die.

Which I had a time machine to go in the future and see where the best place to invest.

I look at investing different from most. Invest in yourself, your house, car, credit cards.
Pay your house off.
Don't carry a balance on credit cards. Use credit cards instead of a debit card to make money. All my credit cards pay 1%, 2%, 3%, even 5% on purchases. That's the best thing going today. I make $100's using credit cards that are auto paid on date bill is due.
Pay cash for cars, trucks, tractors, everything.
My last loan on a car was 1975.

INVEST IN YOURSELF.

George

Today's Featured Article - Good As New - by Bill Goodwin. In the summer of 1995, my father, Russ Goodwin, and I acquired the 1945 Farmall B that my grandfather used as an overseer on a farm in Waynesboro, Georgia. After my grandfather’s death in 1955, J.P. Rollins, son of the landowner, used the tractor. In the winter 1985, while in his possession the engine block cracked and was unrepairable. He had told my father ... [Read Article]
