I wish I could talk you out of thinking like that. That sounds like the pitch the annuity salesmen give. When the stock market tanks like it did a few years ago it overdoes it and ends up way too low at the bottom point. A lot of really good stocks get caught up in the panic and are bargains by any standard. Don't buy into that old "percentage" crap. The Dow 30 lost over 50% of its value between 2008 and Mar 2009. From about 14000 to 6726. Today, it's running at about 16,500. 30 stocks make up that index. Another way of trying to explain it is when a really good stock takes a tumble due to an overall market crash, it will recover and it will be easier to get up to that previous high the second time than it was the first. Two human emotions control the stock market. GREED and FEAR. In the words of Warren Buffet: "When others are fearful, be greedy. When others are greedy, be fearful." One last parting shot. An example. When Ford Motor Company went from the teens down to $1.50+/-, I tried to tell anyone who would listen to buy it. Everyone I talked to was afraid to buy it. It had lost over 90% of its previous value. Now, it's 900% higher. Still believe in those percentage stories?

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
