You opened the floodgates now talking about problems with cold. I got up this morning, started my normal routine, popped a Prilosec in to my mouth and went to run some water and didn't have any. Checked another faucet and none there either. I checked the breaker, that was OK,went out and checked the pressure gauge on the well,45 pounds. Went in the barn and that worked,so the cows had water. Went across the road, the waterer worked over there. Only frozen in the house. Didn't know how it could be frozen inside with the furnace running. I was afraid we'd have to dig it up,but my brother, who's in the excavating business and put the line in there,is up north, naturally. We had rerouted a water line five years or so ago because the old galvanized line that came up in the crawl space under the kitchen had blown out. We had run 3/4 inch black plastic under the foundation up in to the crawl under the south wall under a bedroom, then in to the cellar. There was about three feet of it laying on top of the ground back in there. I pointed a hair dryer at it,took the line apart just beyond the shutoff and it didn't take 5 minutes to thaw it,thank GOD! Never had water freeze in the house that way. I went to town and got some of that split Styrofoam and slid on to it,tried to throw some dirt over it with a garden trowel but couldn't get the dirt back there where I wanted it. I banked the south side of the house up with snow all the way up to the windows,so I hope it doesn't happen again in the cold that's coming. Gotta love it!

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
