I'm sure it varies state to state, but in Texas you can "bank" your own blood if you're going for a planed surgery and there is a possibility you might need it. That way you get your own blood back, no worry of what might be in it, no charges.
A person can donate to replenish the blood bank for someone else to help with costs.
A person can donate just to donate.
You cannot sell blood for medical purposes.
You can sell blood used for "other purposes" what ever that might be, cosmetics I think.
