I don"t drive often but I do have a Class 1. Handy to be able to borrow a tractor and trailer to move something quick or give a neighbour an hand hauling when they need to do something else...
Two years ago I guess I received a leter from the DMV (actually provincial Auditor Generals office - taxation) saying I had to get my medical. Well I had just done it 2 mo before. They had actually requested it 6 mo before, but I kept putting it off and I gave them some excuses. But I had done it 2 months before the letter -which also had some threats of licence forefit.
I just assumed it was another late letter refering to before my medical...Three weeks later I received another leter stating that my licence was revoked, not just my Class 1 but everything. I was not to opperate any viehicle and the laminated licence was the property of the Gvmt and I was to turn it into the RCMP or Comercial Viehicle Inspection Service - scales, or direct to the Auditor Generals Office in Victoria. They didn"t say how I was to get there without a licence.
They then stated that I would need a new form of Government issed ID unless I had a valid passport - which I did.
This was a pretty long winded letter and I was actually pretty concearned - I didn"t want to go through the process of reapplying and maybe retaking a Class 1 drivers test. The beurocracy in this could end up being ugly!
First I called my Doctor"s office to ensure they sent the document - they had and had proof that the (pdf) scan was received.
I then called the Auditors office at 10 am expecting the worst and them not to believe me.
It was wierd. The phone number I called had a person answer on the 2nd ring. She was polite and understanding. She gave me her direct nember and told me to get my Dr"s office to call her direct asap and she would straighten it out. She took my cell so she could get back to me to ensure it all worked out - she did warn me not to drive anything until it was sorted, luckily I had lots to do in the shop.
The Dr"s office and AG lady worked it all out. She called back in half an hour and told me it would all be fine, but it would take her a bit of time to reinstate my licences. Don"t drive until I call you back. It did take her a couple hours, but she called back in the early after noon to let me know everything was fine, I could drive again and I shouldn"t need another medical for another 5 years.
Then she asked if there was anything else she could do for me - unfortunatly not, this lady knew how to get things done.
Anyway, somethings things work out waaaay better than you expect. Keep warm out there. Its just wet and miserable out here on the west coast. Sorry for my long story. Grant

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
