Sachs is, or was, a very high quality West German saw. Makita bought them out and produce borh Makita and Dolmar saws today. I own 2 Sachs-Dolmars, 3 actually, and the running ones are great saws. Easily equal in quality to Stihl or Husky/Jonsereds of the same era. If it's an older saw the ID tag may still be on the handle or engine, or it may be gone. A picture might help ID it. You can also go to this website- http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/GasbyManufacturer?OpenView&Start=30&Count=30&Expand=36#36 and start looking through the Sachs models there to see if you can ID it.
Forester is a medium quality bar, still made today. Decent stuff, not too expensive, but not original equipment on a Sachs. The Sachs will likely take the same bar mount as a Husky/Jonsereds. Parts can be iffy for the older ones, but so are older Husky parts these days. If it's running now, do everything you can to keep it that way!

The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
