Bob, You may be right. It seems like an expensive over kill. I still don't know much about how they work. I think this motor had a built in delay on off timer built in.
Another strange thing was the relays all had circuit boards that converted the 24 vac control voltage to 22 VDC. Don't have a clue why, but it stands to reason that if the motor is a DC motor, that the controls are also DC. I tend to think, the 24 vac was sent to the motor to turn it on, like the motor control, built in to the motor, acted like a built in relay.
Never worked on too many electric furnaces. This furnace reminded me of how things have advanced in 45 years. George
