Personally I worry about the military strength of this country all the way around, but for a different reason. Yes, I don't think that we can protect ourselves, with the military we've got, if faced with a full on war with any other major nation. That said, because we've let our military resources get to drawn down so far, to confront a major threat will require us to rearm in a hurry. The problem there is that so much of our manufacturing capability has been sent overseas that it would be near impossible to build what we need in a timely manner. Not to mention that, with the technology involved in most cases, in EVERYTHING, there is no way anyone but the current OEM for an item could build that particular item. Expand that problem to the majority of the tools and weapons the military now uses, and it's really a scary thought.

Think about it like this. In WW2 car companies retooled to build military vehicles, bicycle makers retooled and made rifles, and on and on. To even think that could happen now days is the very idea of lunacy. I mean seriously, could you see Toyota (yes, I said Toyota) trying to build a new M1 Abrams tank, or Ford or Chevy trying to build a F22 Raptor jet? How about Leggo trying to build a new machine gun....would they do it out of plastic blocks... LOL. Seriously, I don't know about you, but I just don't see it happening............And that's just from a standpoint of having to retool a super specialized, lean, manufacturing facility making one product into a line making something totally different in a very short time frame. Then, when you include in all of the crap involved with Mfg A needing Mfg B's proprietary technology to do the job, -vs- the WW2 version of things where a lever was a lever, a button was a button, and so forth, it really puts an even scarier picture in place.

In the end all I can say is that if a full scale war is ever brought to our shores, those in charge better be thankful that there are millions of country folks with their own guns and ammo....because we"re probably going to need it....

Today's Featured Article - Good As New - by Bill Goodwin. In the summer of 1995, my father, Russ Goodwin, and I acquired the 1945 Farmall B that my grandfather used as an overseer on a farm in Waynesboro, Georgia. After my grandfather’s death in 1955, J.P. Rollins, son of the landowner, used the tractor. In the winter 1985, while in his possession the engine block cracked and was unrepairable. He had told my father ... [Read Article]
