I have the lever type so I can only tell you how mine hook up after I put the lever where she goes (open/close), there is a "button" for lack of a better word on the back of the housing that you push. This releases the pressure on the ball bearings and allows the male tip to be inserted. Mine were old style IH fittings and the only male fittings I could find that worked were also old style IH. I could not get the pioneer to lock in properly. The thing you push on the back can get stuck, I used the ball on the end of a screwdriver handle to push in with to save me fingers the abuse. This is on our 1586 and may be completely different from yours but, just in case, here is the info so you can at least look at it and use or not use it as it applies.
