Sometimes it can be odd but simple things. My pal Kenny bought a Ford 172 diesel that had been on a stationary power unit to put into his 801 tractor. It turned freely but wouldn't go all the way over. We pulled the head and found that mice had stored corn in the exhaust manifold and some of it had gotten past the valves and into the cylinders. We blew it out and put a new head gasket on and he had a good running engine.
