Good Afternoon! Due to the frozen soil and heavy snow accumulations, we won't be celebrating "Groundhog Day" here in Rushford (no NFC North team is in the Superbowl, so I probably won't watch that, either!). What we will be celebrating, however, is The Purification of Mary and the Presentation of Our Lord on Sunday. Sunday is the 40th day after Christmas, and the day Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the Temple to see Simeon and Anna. They offered two turtledoves as their sacrifice (thus the stanza from the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas"). Simeon sings the Nunc Dimittis, and is able to die a happy and fulfilled man.
