And we finally got some snow in Eastern Washington! About 5 to 6 inches of nice, wet snow. In fact, I am going to plow the driveway for the first time this season--the tractor is plugged in right now.
We are way behind on moisture. A dry year in 2013, but rain when needed to give decent dryland crops. But we are already an inch behind on moisture in January and down to about 2/3 of average moisture from the year 2013. We had none of the usual snow cover during the very cold several weeks in December. I am wondering how much of the area Winter wheat will need to be replanted, and if we don"t get moisture, if that will grow very well and give OK yields.
Hopefully this band of Pacific moisture is just the start of a new pattern.
It has sure been easy, not having to deal with any snow. But we depend on that Winter moisture for much of what we get in any given year. We really need it!
