Several weeks back there was a post or two here regarding shoulder surgery and I made a comment about how my shoulder pain was keeping me awake at night, pain when I put on coats, etc., and was told yep, I probably needed rotator cuff surgery. I'm 46 by the way.
Went to the hospital, had an MRI done on my shoulder, then a few days later saw the doctor that does the surgerys to hear his evaluation of the MRI. He said I had a textbook case and that my rotator cuff was "hanging on by a thread" and needed fixed. He said it would be fine to wait until our cows are done calving in May to do the surgery, so we set a date for mid-May.
In the meantime, the pillow I'd been sleeping on was worn out so I bought a new one, a "Sensorpedic Dual-Comfort Supreme" something or other that is half memory foam and half regular pillow.
Well, I've been sleeping on that pillow for about two weeks now and my shoulder pain is practically gone. Doesn't bother me when I sleep, and I can only feel a little tightness when I put on a coat or raise my arm, etc.
What's everyone's thoughts on this- could the bad pillow have really been the problem and the doctor is just trying to drum up business? Or is the new pillow just easing the symtoms and I should still get the surgery?
In the end I will probably still wind up going with the advice of the doctor versus advice from an internet forum, but I'm interested in other's thoughts/experience on this matter....Not looking forward to being one-armed for six weeks, especially during haying season.
