Well, Eric, I have not owned an M from every year but I have one
and have seen dozens of pictures of various years. In every case,
the brake case looked exactly like mine and is a disk brake. If
you've seen a band brake, I would guess it was a field special or
something. Actually, these disk brakes are very easy to work on.
Make sure the balls are well greased as are all friction points. I've
run across a number of these style that don't work only because
of zero lubrication. They are good and durable. Regards,
