My BIL had an aftermarket unit installed on a Dodge Dakota pickup.
He has a detached garage about 30 feet from his front door, and one cold morning he reached out the front door and hit the remote start for the pickup. The shifter hadn't clicked all the way over into park, the pickup started up in reverse, and backed out through the garage door, down his driveway, and stalled across the street.
I've never had one, but I'm sure a factory installed unit would have safeguards so that couldn't happen.
