One of the screws holding the points or condenser to the breaker plate may be too long, and caught the advance mechanism, or there may be a spare screw or other debris in the advance area (under the breaker plate) that moved into just the right position to momentarily "catch" can sheared the pin.
Or, the shaft/bushings may have been dry and momentarily seized.
As to priming the oil pump, a never-fail method is to use a simple $12 plastic garden sprayer with engine oil in it, adapted to the oil gauge port on the block, and "pump away"!
