Now Mike and Frank have to tote it back to Iowa (or Tennessee), clean it up a bit, catalog it, advertise it and haggle on a selling price that is prob'ly lower than what they say on the TV show while still paying Danielle.
I had a friend that owned an antique store. 100% mark-up was pretty standard.
I hope you don't believe anything you see on that show!
I know a guy that was friends with one of the "sellers". He saw the old guy was selling stuff so he paid him a visit and said he had a pocketful of money and wanted to buy a bunch of signs like the pickers did. The seller laughed then showed him the pile of signs Mike and Frank had supposedly bought. He did sell them some stuff, but most of what they showed on TV was set up. The "seller" even had another pile of signs set aside for another fake sale on Mike and Frank's next visit.
Another guy had them come out to his place to buy stuff. It took several takes to film their arrival. He said Mike swore like a sailor except for when the camera was rolling. They showed Mike and Frank buying a few items but didn't show the big truck they loaded with hundreds of items.
Mike, Frank, and Danielle all have their own antique stores. I'm not sure any of them live in Iowa anymore.
As far as antique store prices. Unless it's a really desirable piece that will move quickly dealers need 100-200% mark up to make any money.
