Where I live if you want good soil you have to compost to make your own or have it hauled in from 100s of miles away. All we have here is black or red clay and rocks. I do raised beds in my garden and the first year after I filled one my jalapeno peppers where 6 foot plus tall and full of fruit. I do also spread goat, chicken and horse manure on my garden in the fall so it leaches into the ground over winter
