Legal in Washington to drive tractor on public roads without a license.
Old guy who had more DUI's than he could remember started driving his Ferguson 30 to the tavern in a small town. About the second instance of that, and the town cop stopped him. No license, no problem- but drunk is drunk, and he spent the next 6 months in the slammer. He thought he was somehow immune from drunk driving laws, too- but not the case.
He was a good old guy, just had a drinking problem. I was working in the jail at that time (1973)- the jail staff knew him well, and he was made a "Trusty" immediately. Lived in an unlocked cell, had the run of the place, we'd send him out to the store for snacks and smokes. He'd help out with cleaning, serving meals, helped in the kitchen, etc.
We were talking one night, and I asked why he didn't "escape"- he said, are you kiddin'? I've got no place to go except home, I'm old and slow, got no wheels, and every cop in the county knows me. And to top it off, they'd send me off to the pen, where I REALLY don't want to go. No, I've got it pretty good here, and I'll serve my time. And probably be back.

After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
