I offer no advice on how tofix it or what you should do. However, I do offer some evaluation of the situation:
You sold a 20-year-old truck to a "friend." After 6 months of observed abuse, it developed a brake problem. Your "friend" apparently wants you to fix it at your own expense - as in warranty. Your "friend" holds other business deals over your head to encourage you to warranty the truck.
IMHO this person is NOT your friend. IMHO the truck is no longer your problem. 6 months is long enough to prove that it was in good condition when sold, and was not ready for a mechanical failure. IMHO you need to make a decision as to whether to continue to deal with this person. IMHO, it is not my place to advise you on what you should do. Nobody on this forum has the firsthand knowledge of the entire situation as do you. Given the information you have provided, I can offer my opnion on what I would do in this situation: I would advise the "friend" that the truck was not sold to him with a warranty. Even if it had been, it would commonly have been 30 to 90 days, and would have been a 50-50 warranty. Holding other business dealings hostage over this situation is simply unacceptable in my opinion.
Just another thought... Are you potentially losing a lifelong friend? Or are you just finding out that a person thought to be a lifelong friend really was not?
