George, most of the time the road graders are set up with a V blade and a wing. They use the regular blade for lighter snow and the V for drifts with the wing knocking the now from either blade into the ditch.
Up here in West MN we haven't had the amounts of snow like they did in East and Southern MN. But we have in the past and the few farmers that are left here may or may not help out. The BTO dairy guys really don't have the time with 400 or more cow herds. The Beef guys and grain farmers will be out helping neighbors as needed. I myself do 2 In Laws places plus 2 friends who can't do their own. It's a total of 12 road miles just to get to them all.
As far as the blowers go the state can only justify so many. And when you get hit with a storm like that covering the area there just are not enough to go around. I some times think that the state and counties would be smart if they approached farmers and provided a good blower and was willing to pay for the farmer to use their tractors in the event of a bad snow. But then you'd have some of these farmers fighting over who got the blower/contract.

In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
