There are several power companies looking to build huge wood-chip burning plants. Wolverine tried to build a huge one near me in northern Michigan. Hope it never happens. Once there's a market for wood chips to that level -I suspect even more woods will be clear-cut. There's enough of that now with all the OSB plants around here.
Sounds like a good deal for the college from a distance - and maybe it really is. Makes me wonder though where all the money came from to build the high-tech heating plant. Also what they plan to do if the wood chip donations disappear? I kind of wonder how any town can get that many wood chips to give away to start with? Most town roads are right-of-ways on private lands and and wood products removed are the property of the land-owners and not owned by the town governments.
