We always called that a working 5th. I sure wish my grain truck had one. With a straight 6 it would save me some shifting. They were nice because in 5th you shifted a whole gear just by shifting the button - you didn't need to move the stick on a hill. In a regular trans that is only a half gear so you have to shift the stick to get down far enough.
My truck isn't so bad from third to fourth. It is the second to third that is the killer with a load of wheat. There is a hill right through town here. I don't bother shifting to third on that hill (there's a stop sign at the bottom). Even if I split second gear it isn't enough gumption to make the leap to third.
