Today I turned 54. To me, birthdays are no big deal. But today was a pretty special one. One of my sisters, Donna, called me at work bawling her eyes out and scared the crap out of me. They were tears of joy. Today, our brother, Larry, was pronounced cancer free, and begins preventive maintenance.
About a year ago, he came down with Stage 4 colorectal cancer. He went from Stage 0 straight to Stage 4, however that happens. About a year of Chemo, his third pet-scan yesterday, and began another round of Chemo this morning...but before they hooked him up, they sat him down and cutting to the chase, pronounced him cancer free at this point. After he finishes Chemo this week, he moves into preventive maintenance, and that aint bad.
In my family, there is a genetic eye disorder called, Retinitis Pigmentosa that the females carry throughout the generations, doesn't affect females but every other generation of males are affected, and most often go blind. The males in my generation were to be affected, but somehow I got skipped and am likely to not be affected at my age. A good reason to be 54, I guess. But our brother, got whacked. Began going blind in college, blind before he was 30. His cancer doctor told him that statistically speaking, males that develop and come down with Rentinitis Pigmentosa, also have a tendency to develop cancer.
As compared to others, my brother has had somewhat of crappy luck throughout life, but today he finally was dealt a good hand, and I got one of the best, most memorable birthday presents I may ever get.
Cool. I'm going to go drink a beer now. Good night everyone.

Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
