When I had an 08 silverado, I let it go without resetting for about 3 1/2 years, or so and it said 16.7 mpgs when I traded it in, the hand calculated avg over that time was 16.7. I felt it was storing and using a lot of data, as it was hard to get the avg to change. I now have a Ram and the avg is forever changing, drive 10 miles and you could go up or down several tenhts. I think the ram only tracks the last few miles, relatively speaking, to calculate its avg. it's also about 1-1.5 mpgs high.
