The 231 is probably the easiest impact to work on. If the leak is your only problem, all you have to do is remove the big nut where the air fitting is. Under it is a conical spring, which may be rusted to pieces. Under that is a small aluminum valve button with an o-ring on it. That o-ring is probably split. Also make sure the rod that the valve fits over is moving smoothly. No need to dig into the gun any further.
