Eric, I have a tool that looks much like a flattened screw driver. It's about 1" wide and is heavier than a putty knife. The MAC Tools or similar tool salesmen usually carry them on their truck. Also, Sears carries them. My brother-in-law showed me a neat gasket remover that you put in a drill, but it is for the softer gaskets like valve covers. You may want to try a stiff wire wheel. I have a cupped wire wheel on my 7" body grinder that does a good job on this type of gasket removal. If you have the manifold gasket that has the heavy foil layer in it, you will have to scrape it off first before trying the wire wheel method. You're right, don't attempt to grind it off. Just a thought. KRM : I just took the manifold off of my tractor and the old gasket is baked right in the manifold. How do I get this stuff off? I was going to try grinding it off but then I'd risk an uneven gasket surface. ???
