: I just took the manifold off of my tractor and the old gasket is baked right in the manifold. How do I get this stuff off? I was going to try grinding it off but then I'd risk an uneven gasket surface. ??? I think before I resorted to any heavy mechanical means, I would try WD-40, oven cleaner, or your favorite gunk remover aided with a good steel putty knife. Like anything else, take your time and it should all come off. As a last resort, you can take off the head and have a machinist reface the gasket surface. Grinding it yourself is an option if you want to make sure you have enough vacuum leaks.
