: I just took the manifold off of my tractor and the old gasket is baked right in the manifold. How do I get this stuff off? I was going to try grinding it off but then I'd risk an uneven gasket surface. ??? Eric, don't get in a hurry. They can be very stubborn, and a "quick fix" will haunt you later. Permatex makes a "gasket remover" spray. It sometimes works. Oven cleaner will help if given time. One of the best tools to use is a sharp 1" wide WOOD CHISEL. My carpenter grandfather would be spinning in his grave at the thought of this, but a sharp wood chisel, a wooden mallet, and careful use will peel that thing right off.
