I am trying to replace the 24 volt alternator on my tractor. I need to know how to insulate to get it to work. the one that was on there worked fine for ten years. The tractor set for a few years. When I put new batteries on it there was a small short. Took it to the alt shop they said it only needed cleaning and it worked. But when I put it back on it really shorted and melted wires before I could disconnect it. I think he may have taken some wires or insulators out.
The tractor is 24 volt positive wire ground to frame. Negative wire to the solenoid. The way the john deere book says. The alternator is 24 volt one wire neg ground. The wire from the back of the alt ran to the negative wire from the battery on the solenoid. Can someone tell me what to replace in the alternator
