I was taking the wheel clamps off of my '41 JD A project and found these pieces of what looks like a cut up tin can or aerosol can that were used as shims to help the clamps have a little extra pressure on the hubs. Seems to be orange and white labeling, and the lettering look to be from the 40's-60's era maybe? I wish I had more to give you, but this is all I could come up with. Maybe make it a little challenge for you container experts?
