If the crack can be pulled together easily, the best fix in my opinion is to patch over the outside with a slightly thicker metal plate and weld that plate to the chute. I would use a 7014 rod because it freezes well and is easy to start. Tack weld in 4 corners, then skip weld for 1 inch on opposite ends alternating to reduce possible warping. Bolting it on with countersunk screw heads on the inside is also a workable solution. staggered row of 5/16 screws spaced about 2 inches apart would work. Jim
